Puttying up the weatherboards, tilers grout up.

This should have been done a long time ago, but I finally got around to

puttying up the cracks in the weatherboards. We decided to do this instead of getting those plastic strips, (which make it look pretty bad). I managed to finish the South, West and a bit of the North sides of the house.
The tilers came back and grouted up the floor. The plumbers will come by next week and chuck in the plumbing.

Chippies doing a bit more.

Because I just won’t be able to get to the house to do anything, I’ve asked the chippies to put up the

external wall plate, put in the pocket doors, and do a couple of other things. There’s a couple of things I’ve asked them not to do, like the fancy bits above the verandah — I’ll do that when we move back in to the house.
The plasterers have almost finished the inside. They also had to do a bit more insulation, because I wasn’t able to.

Work disasters, chippie finishing off.

The chippies were there putting some finishing touches on. They put up the

front strips to hide the cracks in the stucco. The plasterers also were getting stuck into the walls. I had originally planned to put in three pocket doors ready for the plasterers, but because of work commitments I wasn’t able to. At work, an utter disaster was brewing, so I had to turn up and fix things. Me and two others SysAdmins are on a 24/7 roster until the disaster blows over, so I won’t get much time to do anything on the house.
Anyway, it ended up looking like

this at the end of the day.

Doors, fibro, trim and plaster.

Well, the chippies were back again to

swing the exterior doors, nail up the

remaining corner trim, and put

up the fibro. We’ve run out of budget, so unfortunately that’s all we can get them to do. I’ll have to finish off the innards.
The plasterers were also back again. They finished off 90% of the ceiling plaster. We’ve managed to hold them back on doing the external walls until we can get the insulation installed in the weekend. That’ll be a sunrise to sunset job for my wife and I.

Windows.

I went over there in the afternoon and put in the stained glass windows in the

porticulus,

bay window and

front door lintel. I also put in some draw cables inside, (just in case we want a powerpoint where we didn’t think we’d need one), and put in the last of the frame alterations for the upstairs room. I spent the rest of the day with the family.

Raining again.

Bay window & eaves.

I got there early again today and

finished off the bogging. The chippie was there also

fixing up the bay window for us.
I also wanted to see

where our front verandah finished, so that I could position the exterior lights for the sparkie. I

found a good spot for them and fed the cables through from the inside. I also had to feed through the cables for the CBus motion detector modules.
We had had a light rain overnight and drizzle during the day. This tends to make the ground a bit loose. This was the second time that I

fell off the ladder. This was because the ground gave way underneath the ladder and dominoed into the scaffolding. No one was hurt much this time.
The chippies started to

put up the eave lining around the house. They managed to get a

little way before knock-off time.
The

end of the day saw not much change exterior-wise. The bay window is a work of art. I’m glad we got these chippies — they’re bloody good.

Bay window disaster.

I had to go into work today, so left the chippies to their own devices. They worked on the

front bay window.

The dog is the gimpy’s dog was there as well.
I got there late in the afternoon and

spoke to the sparkie about positions of exterior lights, and also

the chippie about the bulkhead over the front bay window.
It seems that the frame chippie’s mistakes are coming back to haunt us. He incorrectly placed the bulkhead and the bay window. We also seem to have been given a different bay window to the one in the plan. Harkaway Homes seems to be very keen to rectify any mistakes made by the frame chippie, and have told the finishing chippie to do what it takes to placate us and bill it to them.
